What is California Proposition 65?
Proposition 65 is a California law that requires companies selling products in California to provide warnings when a product may expose a person to certain chemicals listed by the State of California. It is not a product ban or chemical prohibition law; it is a right-to-know law intended to give California consumers information about potential chemical exposure.
The Proposition 65 list is maintained by California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) and includes hundreds of naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals. Proposition 65 warnings appear on many everyday consumer products, including sporting goods, fitness equipment, apparel, accessories, and other items.
